A very cute video of Fuzzball, Moose and Ginger. I've noticed Ginger is always in the background or not really doing anything in all the videos of her.
Rabbits
Not only did I receive good news about the Wii, but I've also been talking to someone who responded to my post on Craigslist about a rabbit. He's been wanting to find a good home for his Flemish Giant, and he sent me pics of her. She is super cute. I must have her. The bad thing is that I am going to have to choke up the money and have her spayed. The good thing about the SPCA is that they fix rabbits for free so the whole cost of a rabbit is $15. I'm already forking over $50 for the rabbit plus, it's going to take another $150 to spay her (rabbits are considered "exotic" animals so it costs more to have them fixed).
Here is a pic of my hopefully soon-to-be pet.
I already have a name picked out for her. Since she is a big rabbit (over 15 lbs), she needs a big sounding name. Therefore, I decided that her name is to be Moose.
Boats
While I was busy hunting rabbits and Wiis, David spent today looking into joining a boat club. Basically, you pay a membership fee and you get to use the boats whenever you want. That means we can fish on the boat whenever we want (ahem...Steve) and also got water skiing! He's still thinking about it because the membership fee is quite expensive. It's going to have to be something that we really like doing.

David and I went to Boling Bunny Farm out in Needville (about a 45 minute drive Southwest of Houston). We were in search of a Flemish Giant, and I spoke to a rabbit breeder who told me to come to her ranch so she could show me her rabbits. It was sort of creepy to see cage after cage of rabbits. The woman says she shows rabbits and also sells rabbits at a reduced price to the FFA high school students.
There were all kinds of rabbits there...big rabbits, small rabbits, long-eared, short-eared, erect ears, floppy ears...and of all colors and patterns. I asked her how many rabbits she had, and she told me that she must have about 1,000 rabbits.
She showed me the Flemish Giants that she had, and told me that she was probably going to stop carrying this breed because Flemish Giants "don't really mate well because of the Houston heat." Rabbits that dont mate? Is there such a thing? She assured me there was.
We didn't get a rabbit because we're still deciding if we want to get a Flemish Giant. The rabbit lady told us that we should get a girl rabbit since she won't be as aggressive towards our rabbits and we won't have to spay her since our rabbits are fixed. She told us that the only thing that would happen if we don't spay her is that she would try to hump Fuzz and Ging. I asked her if a 17-pound rabbit that is trying to hump our less than 5-pound bunnies would injure them. The woman told us that she wasn't sure since she didn't have experience with "free-roaming" rabbits.
We saw some regular-sized rabbits that we liked too. There was one rabbit who had a beautiful, velvet coat and was a burnt orange color. There were also rabbits who were more "hare-like" and would love running around. There were these other rabbits who were white but looked like they got a bad spray-tan job because they looked like they were spray-painted orange. I later learned that they sprayed each other with their urine because that is what male rabbits do...I'm not getting those rabbits.

Ducks
The ducks have a new home...a nice lake outside of our neighborhood. I've already seen other families feed our little herd. We still feed them everyday. I've also seen a wild momma mallard swim with her nine little babies! I can't imagine having to take care of nine kids all by yourself. At least duck babies become adults after two months. We feed the ducks catfish food and oatmeal and the catfish and other fish in the lake benefit from that. Pickle turned out to be a huge duck!
Rabbits
Since we don't mow the grass in the backyard because of the rabbits, we need another rabbit to keep the yard down. We might go back to the SPCA but I may get a purebred rabbit...a flemish giant! I'm not interested in showing it or breeding it or anything so we will have to get the rabbit spayed/neutered so it won't act agressive towards Fuzz and Ging.

Rabbits
Fuzzball and Ginger are doing great. They saw the ducks, but I didn't let them get near each other...Ginger can deliver a mean bite. It was funny to see a group of 12 baby ducks waddling towards the patio...the rabbits must have thought it was an alien invasion or something. Fuzzball somehow figured out how to get my attention when I'm inside the house. When I'm at the kitchen table, he'll go up to the door and start scratching at it. I give him a treat every time I see him do that in hopes that that will be his way of knocking.
Ducks
The twelve duck are soooo cute yet so messy! They've grown about 2 inches in a week. Here is their latest video napping. You have to watch the whole thing.

Everyone,
Meet Ginger!

Picked her up today. She is a little scared but hopefully she will feel more comfortable soon. Since she is a rescue rabbit, we may have to work on her a little. She is super cute though. She is really shy right now so she tries to hide her face to make her feel more protected. I hope she enjoys her life here.

Buster died sometime last night. Poor little guy. Fuzzball seems ok.
One of the good things about Starbucks is that they give away their coffee grounds for free so people can use it for composting. David probably has at least 20 pounds of coffee grounds for his compost pile. The Houston Police also have a ranch where they keep their police horses and gives away the manure for free too. This also works for the composting and it doesn't smell either. Fuzzball enjoys climbing up the compost pile, so we call it Fuzzball Mountain.
The rabbits are getting along a lot better with each day. Fuzzball has established that he is the alpha so there is some order in Rabbitville. He'll bite Buster and pull out clumps of his fur if Buster gets too close. At first I felt sorry for Buster, but he brings it on himself. Fuzzball would be minding his own business and Buster would come up to him and nudge him with his nose. This would get Fuzzball all crazy so they would run around the backyard for about 10 seconds until they both get distracted and start eating grass. I think Buster likes to be chased.

I am halfway done with finals. I only have two more to go. I took Payment Systems last night and it was a bitch. No one felt good walking out of that exam. Consumer was also hard because the professor in that class was too busy trying to crack jokes than teach. Plus, he wouldn' t answer any questions directly.
David and I are going to be eating spam casserole for dinner tonight. Yes, tha's right, spam casserole (
sfida, want to come over?). It's actually really good. I was telling David how my family eats spam because everyone eats it in Hawaii. David makes good casserole so he used spam one night, and it turned out to be a hit.
Buster and Fuzzball met last week and they don't get along. They would box each other and start biting. David and I have each got bitten while trying to break up their fights. It is somewhat better now. Buster runs away from Fuzzball so there hasn't been as much direct combat. Fuzzball is definitely the alpha rabbit. I'm hoping that things will get better as time goes on.
Maybe we need some police chickens:

It's been a pretty slow weekend since I have to study for finals. My first final is on Tuesday (Consumer Transactions). The class basically tells you what businesses can't do to screw over an innocent consumer.
Culinary Skilz
David and I have been cooking a lot recently. This weekend, I made corn chowder and it turned out yummy. David got us some nice ceasar salad and jalapeno bread. We also ate the corn chowder for leftovers along wih some asparagus with hollandaise sauce. The corn chowder recipe is really easy to make.
Rabbits
I'm surprised I didn't get sick this weekend, since I had to run around at 5:00 a.m. Satuday morning in the cold and rain trying to catch Buster while wearing only a nightshirt. Fuzzball is in the hutch since he got netuered and we let Buster run loose in the backyard. The problem is that Buster can't get wet since he was neutered a week ago and his sutures are water soluble. I woke up to the sound of thunder and realized that Buster may not have the smarts to stay out of the rain. While David was sleeping, I was running around the backyard trying to find Buster. It's pretty dark at 5:00 a.m. and Buster's dark brown coat blends in with the fence pretty well during that time. Plus, it was rainy and cold and I was only wearing a sleep shirt so it made running around all the more hard. Fortunately, I found him, and he is temporarily housed in an old cage underneath the covered porch.

Fuzzball got neutered today and the surgery went off without a hitch. So now Fuzzball is staying in the hutch for a few days and Buster gets to roam the backyard. Now that Fuzzball is neutered, hopefully he won't be trying to run off again and making his mom all worried. There's no telling how many black-eared bunnies are going to be hopping around Pearland due to his 24-hour disappearance last week. Did you know female rabbits can get pregnant again 24-hours after their last delivery? That is a lot of rabbits.
I have to give him liquid pain medicine for the next five days. It's not that hard because I just put the medicine on a piece of celery and Fuzzball eats the whole thing.
Buster seems to enjoy the backyard. He isn't as friendly as Fuzzball, but he still lets me pet him. I think he'll warm up in a couple of weeks.
Other random rabbit facts:
- Rabbits can't throw up so getting hairballs can be deadly for them. Their diet requires a lot of fiber to prevent this.
- Their pee has a lot of nitrogen which makes it good for lemon trees.
- Rabbits tolerate cold weather a lot better than hot weather. 80 degrees is considered hot for them. (We'll have to figure out how they can survive in the summer).

Fuzzball is safe and secure in the backyard. We spotted him running across a neighbor's yard last night...almost 24 hours since his disappearance. Good thing he is white because he stood out pretty easily. Silly rabbit. We lined the fence with bricks so now he can't be digging anymore. Oh yeah, we're also going to get him neutered so his digging tendencies will subside. I was really upset about the disappearance of Fuzzball.
Fuzzball was welcomed home with some fresh rabbit food, cilantro, and celery. He seemed to enjoy the attention.
Will update about his introduction with the new rabbit...he's coming home tonight!

Twenty minutes after writing my last LJ, I went outside to check on Fuzzball. He ran away! He dug a hole under the gate and has vanished. David and I are going to look for him again tomorrow during the daylight.
I posted signs on the neighborhood mailboxes and on the Houston craigslist. Tomorrow, I'll start calling the shelters.
It's raining now. He's probably all wet.
David and I finally adopted a friend for Fuzzball today. We went back to the Houston SPCA and considered two rabbits: Jack and Betty (Jack's picture was removed after we adopted him). Jack automatically melted our hearts. First, he was the rabbit with the nicest coat out of all the rabbits at the SPCA. Second, he was super sweet. The SPCA volunteer who assisted us took him out of the cage. She said it was her first day as a volunteer and never handled a rabbit before. She picked the rabbit up by the shoulders, and I expected him to kick her because rabbits generally hate being picked up. Jack, however, didn't kick at all and let her cradle him in her arms like a baby. He even let David carry him.
The cutest part happened when Jack buried his cute little head in the volunteer's arms because he didn't know what else to do. Jack is a very calm rabbit...totally opposite of Ms. Fuzzy (whom David has dubbed "The Piss Twister"). We are picking him up on Monday evening after he is neutered.
I just hope that Fuzzball and Jack will get along. The pamphlet we read said that a relationship between two male rabbits is the hardest relationship to make.
We're also not sure if we're going to keep "Jack" as the name, so we are trying to come up with a different name. We keep refering to the rabbit as Jack, though, so it's currently the best name for him.
